Law Explorer Development & Assistance Initiative (LEDAI) is a non-profit organisation registered in Nigeria, operating from Abuja and Yenagoa. We advance the rule of law through legal aid, rights monitoring, capacity building, and policy reform.
When you use our website, contact us, or submit a report, LEDAI acts as the data controller responsible for your personal information.
2. What Information We Collect
We only collect information you voluntarily provide to us. This may include:
- Contact form submissions — your full name, email address, subject, and message
- Violation reports — details you choose to share via our secure WhatsApp reporting channel
- WhatsApp / phone enquiries — your phone number and conversation content when you reach out directly
- Email correspondence — any information included in emails you send us
We do not use cookies for tracking, run advertising scripts, or collect data passively through analytics tools on this website.
3. How We Use Your Information
Your information is used solely to:
- Respond to your enquiry, legal assistance request, or partnership proposal
- Process and follow up on human rights violation reports you submit
- Coordinate volunteer or programme participation where applicable
- Comply with legal obligations under Nigerian law
We will never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for commercial purposes.
4. Confidentiality of Violation Reports
Reports submitted via WhatsApp are protected by WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption in transit. Internally, access to report details is restricted to authorised staff directly involved in case handling.
5. Data Sharing
We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- With your consent — e.g. referring your case to a partner legal aid organisation
- Legal obligation — if required by a court order or Nigerian law enforcement authority
- Service providers — our contact form is processed by Formspree, which has its own privacy policy
6. Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected or as required by Nigerian law. Contact enquiries are generally retained for up to 2 years. Case-related information may be retained for longer in line with legal practice standards.

7. Your Rights
Under applicable Nigerian data protection law (NDPA 2023), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")

Our services are not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us immediately so we can delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of our website after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
